Coaching with IFS is a comprehensive professional training for practitioners who want to work deeply with clients who are committed to lasting transformation. Here are the details:

Register before April 1 and receive a $500 discount. 

Classes include teaching, discussion, demos, and observed practice, plus awakening and grounding exercises. Together, we will read the master IFS text, Internal Family Systems Therapy, 2nd ed., by IFS founder Dick Schwartz and Martha Sweezy.

  • Meeting challenging managers and firefighters
  • Demonstrations and practice in accessing and healing exiles
  • Handling thinking parts, Self-like managers, and dissociating parts
  • What to do when a client has lots of parts seeking attention at once
  • Dealing with big emotions
  • Releasing legacy burdens
  • Calling in guides
  • Working with past lives


  • Practitioners with training in IFS
  • Any coach, therapist, or counselor who commits to reading No Bad Parts
  • All others with permission of the instructors


  • Before the first weekend, read No Bad Parts by Dick Schwartz.
  • Attend at least four, and preferably all six, training weekends. Exceptions are given with instructor pre-approval. For any weekends missed, watch the class recordings.
  • The weekday Q & A sessions are optional, though attendance is encouraged.
  • Keep pace with the assigned reading in the class textbook, Internal Family Systems Therapy, 2nd ed.
  • Meet with your practice partner at least three times after each weekends.

  • Guthrie Sayen, PhD, trains coaches and other practitioners worldwide in Internal Family Systems. He co-created and co-led Coaching for Self-Leadership, which was offered through the IFS Institute and had more than one thousand participants. He created and leads Parts Work, a yearlong training in IFS. He created and leads Coaching with Spirit, an accredited coaching training program, and Coaching with IFS, a series of trainings for beginning, intermediate, and advanced practitioners. He is a Level-3 trained IFS practitioner and has studied extensively with IFS founder Dick Schwartz.

  • Barti Bourgault, MA, PCC, has been supporting Coaching with Spirit trainings since 2018 as program director, associate trainer, and mentor coach. In addition, she offers individual coaching, mindfulness trainings, and mentoring through her private practice.
